Volunteers Needed
The charities and projects within the Tyne Housing Association Ltd group are regularly seeking to recruit volunteers, both to enhance the services we provide to our clients and to provide valuable opportunities for members of the community to gain experience in our fields of work. All of our volunteers are given the opportunity to take part in the work related training that we offer to employees.

The range of projects includes;

Joseph Cowen Health Care Centre
Part of the service provided by the Health Care Centre is a drop-in for homeless, vulnerable, and isolated people. The drop-in provides hot and cold drinks and snacks for homeless men and women throughout the year, as well as advice on housing, support, and access to healthcare services. As a volunteer at the centre you would assist the staff team in the running of the centre, providing advice to centre users.

Ouseburn Farm
Ouseburn Farm is a community project providing education and training opportunities in animal husbandry and horticulture. The farm provides life skills training to adults with learning disabilities who assist in the day to day running of the farm by tending the animals, growing various plants and vegetables, and working in the Farm’s Café. All trainees and volunteers receive food handling and hygiene training.
Ouseburn Farm receives educational visits from schools throughout the region.
The Farm is expanding as a community resource and needs volunteers to help. Experience is not necessary as staff are available to give advice and direction and all volunteers will be able to access appropriate training provided by Tyne Housing Association Ltd. Volunteering at Ouseburn Farm provides an excellent opportunity for those wishing to gain skills in agriculture and horticulture,and in providing support to vulnerable adults.

Hostels and Supported Housing
Tyne Housing Association Ltd has a large number of well established supported housing projects. Each person living in our supported housing has a personalised support plan completed in partnership with their support worker. Due to the personal nature of our work with residents of supported housing, and the difficult nature of some of the issues they face, we do not feel it is appropriate for volunteers to give support directly to our service users. However, we are keen for volunteers with specific interests and skills to work with our staff in facilitating group activities with service users, particularly in sports, arts and leisure activities. We are open to all suggestions for activities that could be of therapeutic benefit, or increase the confidence and social skills of our service users.

Furniture Restoration Workshop
Under the Bridge offers an occupational therapy workshop where residents of the the Tyne Housing organisation can attend to learn new skills, engage in learning and socialise. The workshop takes donations of furniture, restores them to former glory and sells them to fund the project. We require volunteers to assist us in this project; selling the items in the shops, collecting and delivering items and passing on any skills they have to the participants.
We run two stores which are vital to the project by providing much needed funds to purchase resources and equipment for the workshop. We are looking for individuals (18yrs+) who would like to offer their time in running the stores. Van drivers (21yrs+) too are essential for the transportation of items to and from the workshop. We are keen to meet individuals with previous customer service, sales and retail experience but this is in no way essential as training and support will be provided.

All volunteers will have an enhanced DBS check prior to being accepted for volunteering activities.

It is very important for our service users and trainees that anyone working with them, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity is both punctual and reliable.

Volunteers are required to adhere to a range of policies including the associations code of conduct.
