Donation Support Volunteer

Situated in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, the Joseph Cowen Health Centre provides a range of health and wellbeing services to rough sleepers and other isolated individuals who require help and support with a range of issues. The project provides access to GP’s, harm reduction support (such as a needle exchange), clothing donations, as well as a wide range of wellbeing support such as showers, internet/phone access, and laundry facilities.  

Role Responsibilities:

  • Create relationships with current donating bodies and individuals so that the centre maximises its ability to support those who support us.
  • Identify and approach, potential donating bodies and individuals
  • Help staff manage our clothing store and, where appropriate, support centre visitors to use the clothing donation service
  • Contribute to Tyne’s overall social media activity with a specific emphasis on donations
  • Support Tyne’s Christmas activities again with an emphasis upon donations 

Your experience and qualifications

  • An enthusiasm for and/or knowledge of working with vulnerable, lonely and isolated people and generally working as part of a supportive and friendly team
  • A reasonable level of written English
  • Confidence is making the first contact with people and organisations
  • A willingness to work as part of a team
  • A flexible approach
