Skills Training

Wood workshop

First opened in 1975, our workshop provides a hands-on learning environment for those who are interested in developing their woodwork, carpentry and creative skills. Based at our Wilfred Street site in Byker, the workshop sits across three floors and is part-funded by our friends and partners at Newcastle City Council.

We currently run several weekly sessions for those we support, helping them to develop their confidence and skills whilst working as a team within a creative setting. Our goal is to offer residents who live within our supported accommodation an opportunity to work on a project together that they can share with their communities or take back and enjoy together in their own home.

Alongside this project work, we’re developing our paid-for commission offer. Led by our skilled wood sculptor, David and supported by our team of volunteers and learners, we’re keen to offer furniture and sculpture commissions to raise funds to support the development of our workshop and skills training offer.
